What the heck is this Microsoft S mode?

Microsoft S mode is a simplified and secure version of Windows that only lets you install apps from the Microsoft Store, with an aim of keeping your device safer from potentially harmful software.

The downside of this feature is that, it limits you to installing apps only from the Microsoft Store. This can be restrictive because you can’t freely download and install software from other sources. If you need a specific program that’s not in the Microsoft Store(MS store), S mode might feel a bit confining. It’s like having a locked door — great for security, but can be frustrating if you want to go beyond the curated options available in the Microsoft Store.

Follow this two simple steps to restore Microsoft S mode window if you can’t see it in your windows within the Microsoft store:

Step 1. Clearing Microsoft Office Cache.

  • To clear Microsoft office cache, press the start btn key and search for:
wsreset.exe
  • Next, click on it to initialize the reset(cache) cleaning of the store app.

Step 2. Launching MS Store to Switch Out of S mode.

  • After the cache cleaning has been completed, all that is left is to launch the MS store using below link, which will initialize the S mode dialog:

=> ms-windows-store://switchwindows

  • When Microsoft store opens, the Switch out of S mode window will appear, and from there you can proceed with e.g., disabling it or solving any other issue you had earlier that made you think of this quick fix.
