Trust me, I know I’m a full-blown Twitter addict by now, which makes me one of the rightful candidates to suggest more features to add to its UX recipe to keep me more engrossed in the matrix 😄

In this piece of writing, I’ll focus on two key feature requests: “Username Aliasing” and “Draft Synchronization,” that could significantly enhance the platform’s usability. Join me as I delve into the potential benefits of these features if they were to be added. And, I hope the next feature that gets released doesn’t end up focusing solely on the blue subscribers, ignoring a mere basic user like me 😭

Username Aliasing: Seamlessly Transition with Ease

In today’s dynamic social media landscape, personal branding plays a vital role in defining one’s online identity. It’s no surprise that many Twitter users feel the need to update their usernames to stay relevant and reflective of their evolving selves. However, this seemingly innocent update poses a challenge — all the previous mentions and tags lead to the old username, potentially causing confusion among followers or viewers of a specific old post (fka tweet), as they won’t be able to click or navigate to the new username.

Essentially we want an old tagged username to redirect to an updated one as seen in above sample.

To tackle this issue and empower users with a smooth transition, I propose the introduction of username aliasing on tagged handles within posts. This feature would automatically redirect all references of the old username to the new one onPostClick through a username linkage mechanism, ensuring a seamless experience for users. This way, Twitter users can confidently update their usernames without worrying about losing valuable connections or engagement history in the future.

Bonus Request: Draft Synchronization

As someone who actively engages with 𝕏 (Twitter) on multiple devices, I’ve often encountered the frustration of drafts saved on one device not being accessible(available) on the others(desktop <—>phone). This lack of synchronization can lead to redundant efforts and hinder the overall tweeting experience(comfort), hence the reason to request the implementation of a Draft Synchronization feature.
